Job Summary

The City of Lexington is seeking an experienced, proactive, and community-oriented professional to serve as the Chief of Police. The Chief will provide strategic leadership, manage day-to-day department operations, oversee budget administration, and foster positive community relations. This role requires high ethical standards, strong administrative skills, and a commitment to modern, transparent policing. 

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Administration: Direct all police department personnel, including hiring, training, disciplining, and evaluating the performance of officers and staff.
• Community Policing: Maintain strong community relations by attending public meetings, addressing citizen concerns, and implementing crime prevention programs.
• Operational Control: Oversee patrol efforts, investigations, traffic services, and emergency response planning.
• Budgeting: Develop, present, and control the department's annual budget, including equipment procurement and allocation.
• Reporting: Prepare reports for the City Council/Mayor regarding departmental activities and crime trends. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: At least 2-5 years of comprehensive law enforcement experience, with at least 2 years in a command or supervisory role (Lieutenant or higher).
• Certification: Current certification by the State Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training.
• Skills: Proven ability in strategic planning, budgeting, personnel management, and public speaking.
